Standard Concession — Professional
"I have reviewed the exchange and I want to be direct: you were right about the timeline. My estimate was based on assumptions that proved incorrect, and I maintained my position longer than the evidence supported. I concede this point entirely. Your original projection was accurate."
The other party had been waiting 14 months for this concession. They responded within an hour. The working relationship resumed.
Retroactive Concession — Personal (7 years)
"This letter is about the argument we had in 2018 about the apartment. You were right that we couldn't afford it. I knew that at the time and argued anyway. I am writing to formally concede that point. It took me longer than it should have to do this. I'm sorry it did."
The other party called the same day. The client described the response as "not what I expected." We asked what they expected. They said: "nothing."
